Dutch Bicycle History: mr. P.M. Snaauw + Burgers E.N.R. P.M. Snaauw from Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht and his 'Burgers E.N.R' (short for: Eerste Nederlandsche Rijwiel- en Machinefabriek v/h H. Burgers, also a manufacturer of motorbikes). No date, probably around 1915. Mr. Snaauw was probably the 3th 'velopicedist' (cyclist) of The Netherlands. In 1867 he had his bicycle made by the local blacksmith W. Stijnis. Snaauw's first bicycle was a legal copy of a Dutch copy of a French Michaux-velopicede. Once The Netherlands had dozens of real bicycle factories, and hundreds of bicycle brands. But not all bicycle manufacturers registered their brand name. 'Sultana' was such a brand. Some of those manufacturers were also agent of an English bicycle brand. The British bicycle industry was dominant in those days. And the competition powers of the Dutch industry were still too weak.
